The Bank of Canada's 2027 Rate Calendar Is Out: 11 Dates That Will Shape Your Borrowing Costs
Eight fixed announcement dates for 2027, plus three left in 2026 — a ready-made planning calendar for renewals, debt paydown and savings decisions.
The Bank of Canada has published the dates on which it will announce its policy interest rate in 2027, and reconfirmed the ones left in 2026. That may sound like housekeeping, but for anyone carrying a mortgage, a line of credit or a variable-rate loan, it is one of the most useful pieces of information the Bank puts out all year: it tells you exactly when the price of your debt can change.
The dates to put in your calendar
Remaining in 2026:
Wednesday, September 2
Wednesday, October 28
Wednesday, December 9
In 2027:
January 27, March 3, April 28 and June 2
July 21, September 8, October 27 and December 8
Announcements land at 9:45 a.m. ET. The quarterly Monetary Policy Report — the document that spells out the Bank's inflation and growth forecasts — comes out alongside the January, April, July and October decisions. The Business Outlook Survey and Canadian Survey of Consumer Expectations are set for January 18, April 19, July 12 and October 18, and the Financial Stability Report for May 18.
Why the calendar matters for a household budget
With the policy rate at 2.25% since July 2026, the near-term question for most households is not whether rates will move dramatically but when small moves might land. Knowing the dates lets you:
Time a mortgage renewal decision. If your renewal falls a few weeks after a decision date, you get one more data point before locking in a term.
Anticipate variable-rate payment changes. Lenders typically adjust prime within days of a move, so a rate cut or hike shows up in your cash flow the following month.
Plan GIC and savings maturities. High-interest savings and short GIC yields track the policy rate closely, so a maturity landing just before a decision is worth a second look.
Schedule a quarterly plan review. Four of the eight 2027 dates come with a full forecast update — a natural rhythm for revisiting your assumptions.
Turning dates into a projection
In AffordaFlow, the practical move is to treat these dates as review checkpoints rather than forecasting events. Build your projection on the rate you have today, then run a second scenario at plus and minus half a percentage point on your variable debt to see how much monthly room you actually have. When a decision date passes, you only need to check whether reality stayed inside that range — if it did, nothing changes; if it did not, you already know what the new payment looks like.
Households with a renewal in the next 18 months benefit most from this. Mapping your renewal date against the announcement calendar shows you how many decisions stand between now and the moment you commit to a new term.
